- NACE President Addresses Army Summit
Neil Thompson, President of NACE International until March 2006, spoke to members of the Army Corrosion Summit about military and industry challenges in tackling corrosion. He addressed the unique challenge of aging military systems and the need for all Services to cooperate in developing 21st-century approaches to inspection, monitoring, and maintenance. Thompson emphasized that "corrosion is not the core business of any industry sector (including the military) but is critical to long-term operations."
- DoD Creates Corrosion Education Consortium
The Department of Defense (DoD) Corrosion Office is serious about forging partnerships among the military, academia, and private industry. To make headway so that DoD assets are protected, corrosion experts need a buy-in from the fabricators and users of the next generation. To fulfill this goal, the DoD is working to involve university experts more closely in DoD-sponsored efforts to combat corrosion.
- DoD Corrosion Exchange Unveils Project Database
Two teams that work on behalf of the DoD Corrosion Office have unveiled a new corrosion database featuring military projects. Users can access the database through the DoD Corrosion Exchange Web site. The tool allows principal DoD and government investigators to submit, search, view, update, and print project information for corrosion-related projects.
