- Storage Testing Ensures Cargo Loader is War-Ready
The lightweight Halvorsen loader is versatile and easily deployed in hard-to-reach combat zones. But the Air Force and FMC Airport Systems want to ensure that each piece of equipment has a long life. So they have been subjecting each loader to long-term storage experiments since 2003 to test their durability and protect them while they are not in use.
- Researchers Aim to Redesign EA-6B "Prowler"
To sustain the EA-6B Prowler jets, the Navy is giving its premier surveillance jet a makeover. Collaborating with the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) and industry, the Navy is enhancing the structure of the aircraft's fuselage cover, known as the turtleback, in a complete redesign effort. To restructure the cover, two RIT researchers will create a 3-D, digital schematic of the turtleback using laser scanning technology.

ONR Faculty Researcher Tests Marine Aluminum Alloys
Selected as a faculty researcher by the Office of Naval Research in the summer of 2006, a Southern University professor and electrochemistry expert helped the Navy find top-quality, corrosion-resistant alloys for a host of applications. One series of tests looked at how susceptible the metal is to intergranular and exfoliation corrosion. In a different endeavor, Derald Chriss attempted to make inroads in the field of nano-channel fabrication by working with tiny-scale glass samples for detecting corrosion.
