At Tri-Service Meeting, Experts Push to Make Corrosion Part of the Culture
Corrosion Officials Invite Secretary of the Air Force

This year's audit of DoD's corrosion prevention effort couldn't have come at a better time. The Government Accountability Office recently urged the Pentagon and armed Services to budget and plan for the long-term preservation of weapons and infrastructure before projects are fully underway.

From December 3-7, corrosion experts and DoD officials will speak about the challenges of integrating corrosion control into the DoD culture at the Tri-Service Corrosion Conference. This year's conference theme is "Integrating Corrosion Prevention and Control in Policy, Planning, and Programming." The biennial conference, sponsored by the DoD Corrosion Office and supported by NACE International, will take place at the Hyatt Regency Denver.

Michael W. Wynne, Secretary of the Air Force, has been invited to deliver the keynote speech at the Wednesday night banquet. Secretary Wynne served as the first DoD Corrosion Executive from 2003 until 2005. Senator Byron Dorgan from North Dakota has also been invited to provide a keynote speech to conference participants. Sen. Dorgan is one of the early supporters of the DoD corrosion effort and he continues to strongly advocate for the agency's corrosion program. Ralph Adler, a research metallurgist at the Army Research Laboratory, will direct the Student Poster Session inside the exhibit hall.
