1. Q: What types of products are addressed by this Introduction Process?
A: This process addresses only products and technologies related to corrosion prevention and control which includes organic coatings, inorganic coatings, adhesives, sealants, greases and lubricants and operational maintenance chemicals. These and other related technology areas are identified in the search specs and standards tool.
2. Q: Why should I use the product introduction tool?
A: This tool provides a streamlined pathway to introduce your corrosion prevention and control products and technologies to DoD and other government agencies.
3. Q: How do I find information or match my product to a specific specification or standard
A: Go to the specification and standard search tool at http://web.lmi.org/specsstandards/search.aspx
4. Q: Does this process/tool guarantee my product will be purchased by DoD/government agencies?
A: No, the web based process does not qualify your product to any specification or standard nor does it guarantee procurement of your product by any government agency.
5. Q: Is my information protected?
A: Yes, the information submitted is only viewable by the submitter and the government support technical review team. In addition, the CorrDefense website employs government security standards (.gov) to protect data and prevent unauthorized downloading or changing of information.
6. Q: How do I determine if my product meets the requirements of a specification?
A: Access the current version of the specification and compare your product’s performance against requirements and test methods identified in the specification.
7. Q: Does my product have to meet all the requirements in the specification?
A: Yes, see the applicable specification for the minimum acceptable requirements.
8. Q: Will the government pay for the costs of evaluating my product?
A: In general, the government does not pay for testing and evaluation of products.
9. Q: How long does the process take?
A: The timeframe can be extremely variable depending on many factors. For existing specification products and technologies, this will depend on the requirements in the applicable specifications. For new products and technologies with no applicable specification, the timeframe cannot be defined.
10. Q: What if my product’s performance characteristics exceed the performance requirements in a specification?
A: The requirements identified in a specification represent the minimum level of performance desired by the government. It is not unusual for manufacturers to produce a product which exceeds many of the requirements in order to pass testing.
